PDM SACCO Leaders Set for Immediate Replacement Over Corruption.
By Ambrose Wanagoli.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Butaleja, Ms. Betty Lutamaguzi Kalumba, has announced plans to immediately replace all Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO leaders across the country.
The move is aimed at addressing corruption practices that are believed to have undermined the government program.
Speaking on Wednesday, Ms. Kalumba said the decision was made by the Ministry of Local Government. She directed beneficiaries to begin electing new leaders starting Monday the 13th.
She also urged beneficiaries to prepare to refund the money received, emphasizing that the funds are revolving in nature and must be returned to the treasury to allow more applicants to benefit.
The Deputy RDC further warned applicants against selling their identities to others to access PDM funds. She stressed that individuals registered in the system will be held accountable for any misuse of the money.
Ms. Kalumba reiterated that PDM funds are strictly intended for the poor. She encouraged those who are financially better off to instead enroll in the Emyooga program.
Reports indicate that some initial beneficiaries misused the PDM funds on luxury expenses, mistakenly believing the money was a token of appreciation from President Museveni for their support.
