As the city gears up for the 13th edition of the Kababa Birthday Run this Sunday, April 12, 2026, the event has received a significant financial boost.
Hon. David Calvin Echodu, the National NRM Vice Chairman for Eastern Region and MP-elect for Soroti City West, has purchased official run kits worth UGX 5million
The contribution was delivered through his legal representatives, Counsel James Banoba and Isaac Semanyi, while Hon. Echodu attends an NRM retreat in Kyankwanzi. This year’s run, held at Lubiri, Mengo, celebrates the 71st birthday of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II with a mission to mobilize men in the fight to end HIV/AIDS by 2030.
This generous gesture is far from a one-off act. Hon. Echodu has established himself as a consistent and long-standing supporter of the Buganda Kingdom’s initiatives. For years, he has actively participated in and funded the Kabaka Birthday Run, consistently purchasing large volumes of kits to support the Kingdom’s health drives. His track record extends beyond Buganda, as he is well-known for backing various charitable and “good cause” runs both within Uganda and internationally.
Speaking through his representatives, Hon. Echodu emphasized that his support for the Kingdom is rooted in a deep respect for heritage as a pillar of Ugandan identity. “I will continue to work with any organization, Kingdom, or Chiefdom to push for a better Uganda,” Echodu stated.

He also expressed his gratitude to the people of Uganda for their continued support of President Museveni and pledged to remain a steadfast partner to the Buganda Kingdom whenever called upon.
The race is scheduled for Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Lubiri, Mengo, with flag-off expected by His Majesty the Kabaka. This year’s theme focuses on “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child and the Fight to End HIV/AIDS by 2030.” Participants can choose from 5km, 10km, and 21km categories, with over 120,000 runners expected to attend.
The UGX 5 million contribution demonstrates Hon. Echodu’s continued commitment to supporting meaningful causes that promote public health and cultural heritage in Uganda. His consistent support over the years has helped make the Kabaka Birthday Run one of the most successful health advocacy events in the country.
