The Chief Administrative Officer of Butaleja District, Mr. Mike Yoga has announced an emergency plan to rehabilitate severely damaged roads and extend support to residents affected by devastating floods sweeping across the area.

Speaking to journalists at his office on Monday, Yoga said he will immediately direct the District Engineer to intervene and restore key transport routes that have become impassable due to prolonged heavy rains.

He also pledged to engage the Office of the Prime Minister to secure additional support for the district’s recovery efforts.

Yoga identified East Bunyole as the hardest-hit region, citing Doho, Butaleja Sub-county, Butaleja Town Council, and Mazimasa Sub-county as areas grappling with the worst effects of flooding.

This marks the second time the CAO has raised alarm over the worsening flood situation, which has left a trail of destruction and disrupted livelihoods.

Across the district, roads are riddled with potholes, submerged in stagnant water, and blanketed in thick mud, cutting off communities, and slowing economic activity.

Public frustration is mounting, particularly on social media, where residents have criticized the district’s leadership for what they describe as inaction on the deteriorating road network.

Some observers link the delayed response to the ongoing political transition, with leadership handovers expected soon.

As pressure builds, all eyes are now on district authorities to deliver swift and tangible solutions to avert further suffering.
