Tensions continue to simmer in Bison Maguria Parish, Western Division of Tororo Municipality, following a contentious leadership transition that has exposed legal concerns and divided community opinion.

A handover meeting held at the Western Division boardroom brought together LC1 chairpersons and key stakeholders under the leadership of LCIII Chairperson Manyadi Al-Jamal.

The gathering aimed to streamline interim governance at the parish level but instead highlighted deep-rooted disagreements over the current leadership structure.

At the centre of the dispute are allegations that the acting vice chairperson has been holding dual roles—serving both as a councillor and a parish executive member—an arrangement critics argue contravenes Section 27 of the Local Government Act.

Amid the uncertainty, Mr. Kayima Sabiri was earlier appointed acting LCII Chairperson and is now expected to lead alongside an interim committee until fresh elections are organized.

Addressing attendees, Chairperson Manyadi emphasized that the temporary leadership will step aside once the Electoral Commission announces official polling dates. He called for calm and urged residents to anchor their arguments in legal provisions rather than emotion.

Despite these assurances, sections of the community voiced strong opposition during the meeting, questioning both the process and the legitimacy of the interim arrangements.

The standoff follows a formal petition submitted by local leaders seeking urgent intervention, signalling that the leadership wrangle in Bison Maguria Parish is far from over.
