Outgoing Butaleja LCV chairperson Hands Over Office Through Driver.
By Ambrose Wanagoli
The outgoing Butaleja District Chairperson, Michael Higenyi Bore, has officially handed over office property to the Chief Administrative Officer through his driver, in an unusual transition process ahead of the swearing-in of new leaders.
Speaking on Wednesday morning, Mike Yoga said he received the district LCV official vehicle from Mr. Abbey Wanjala, the driver attached to the outgoing chairperson’s office, after reports indicated that Michael Higenyi Bore was unable to personally conduct the handover.
According to the CAO, the vehicle was immediately directed to the district works department for inspection by the mechanical engineer amid suspicions of possible vandalism due to the manner in which it was handed over.
Mr. Yoga further revealed that by press time, the district administration had not yet received office keys, official stamps, and other tools attached to the office of the LCV Chairperson.
He explained that the Minister of Local Government had directed all outgoing LCV chairpersons, mayors, and LCIII chairpersons across the country to hand over office by May 12 to Chief Administrative Officers, Town Clerks, and Sub-county Chiefs respectively, ahead of the presidential swearing-in ceremonies.
Meanwhile, the CAO confirmed that the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected Butaleja District Chairperson, Elvis Weere, will take place on Monday, May 18, and will be officiated by the Chief Magistrate.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Michael Higenyi Bore regarding the matter were unsuccessful by press time.
Michael Higenyi Bore becomes the fourth leader to govern Butaleja District since the district was established.
The district was first led by Sam Hibbinga Wyre, followed by Richard Waya between 2006 and 2011. Joseph Muyonjo later served from 2011 to 2016 before Richard Waya returned for another term between 2016 and 2021.
Michael Higenyi Bore defeated Waya in the 2021 elections and served until 2026, when Elvis Weere emerged victorious to take over the district leadership.
