Aido Network International (Ateker International Development Organisation – AIDO), in partnership with the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, has launched a regional campaign aimed at fighting drug and substance abuse among young people in Teso.

The campaign, titled “Kick Out Drugs and Substance Abuse from Teso,” will run from 17th to 31st July 2026 across the region.

It targets schools, communities, health centres, and public spaces, with a focus on raising awareness and preventing drug abuse among the youth.

AIDO says rising cases of substance abuse in the region are affecting education, health, family life, and productivity, calling for urgent community action.

The programme will include school outreach, radio talk shows, public dialogues, youth forums, counselling sessions, and distribution of educational materials.

Speaking ahead of the campaign, Chancellor Ekwamu John, Chair of the AIDO organising council, said the initiative is focused on prevention and youth empowerment.

“The future of Teso depends on the choices young people make today. This campaign is about guiding them towards education, health, and productive lives away from drugs,” he said.

The campaign has attracted support from partners including MTN Uganda, Equity Bank, Stanbic Bank, Absa Bank, Rotary Club of Serere, Clinson Medical Centre, Serere District Local Government, Kuman Cultural Union, Iteso Cultural Union, and Teso Broadcasting Service.

Organisers say the collaboration brings together government, cultural institutions, private sector actors, and civil society to address substance abuse in the region.

AIDO has called on parents, teachers, religious leaders, and community leaders to support the campaign and take part in promoting a drug-free Teso.
