Education Ministry Suspends School-Organized Tours Following Fatal Accidents.

The Ministry of Education and Sports has suspended all school-organized educational tours and trips with immediate effect following a series of fatal road accidents involving students.

According to reports, the directive was issued by State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo, pending comprehensive investigations into the recent crashes that have claimed several lives.

The suspension comes after a bus transporting pupils from King David Primary School, Ndejje, reportedly overturned in Kapchorwa while returning from an educational tour.

Initial reports indicate that more than 20 people, including pupils and the school’s director, lost their lives, while many others sustained injuries.

The Kapchorwa tragedy follows two other serious school transport accidents within the past week.

In one incident, a bus carrying students from Mwebaze High School collided with a train along the Mukono–Katosi Road, killing two people, including a student and a matron.

In another, a bus transporting students from St. Paul S.S. Katakwi was involved in a crash with a stationary trailer along the Tirinyi Highway, resulting in the death of the driver and injuries to several students.

Education officials say the suspension will remain in force until investigations into the accidents are completed and additional safety measures are put in place to protect learners during school travel.

The Ministry of Works and Transport is also expected to issue a statement addressing road safety concerns and measures aimed at preventing similar tragedies.

Authorities have urged schools, parents, and transport operators to comply with the directive as investigations continue.
