Students Hail Drug Free World MDD Competition for Promoting Talent and Fighting Drug Abuse.

Students participating in the Drug Free World Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) competition have described the event as an important platform for nurturing talents while raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
Egau Edward, a senior five student at Kamod Secondary School, said the competition has enabled students to discover and develop their talents while inspiring them to become ambassadors against drug abuse.
“I plan to use my talent of playing the piano to influence fellow young people to avoid drugs and embrace positive lifestyles,” he said.
Kamod Secondary School Head Girl Atai Joyce Mary said the competition will have a lasting impact on students by improving their talents and equipping them with knowledge to educate their communities about the dangers of drugs.
She noted that learners will continue spreading Drug Free World messages beyond the competition through community sensitisation.
Otim Ivan, a Senior One student at Halychon High School Serere, described the competition as an eye-opening initiative that delivers anti-drug messages through dance and drama.
“Drama and dance help students relax while learning important lessons about the dangers of drug abuse,” he said.
Elungat Justine said he is using his drama talent to demonstrate how communities can support, rescue, and rehabilitate people affected by drug addiction.
The students made the remarks during the Drug Free World Music, Dance, Drama and Poetry (MDD) competition hosted by Serere Secondary School under the Aido Network International, bringing together more than six Drug Free World school clubs from different secondary schools.
The competition hosted by Serere SS features public speaking, music, creative dance, drama, skits, and singing, with every performance carrying educational messages calling for an end to drug, alcohol and substance abuse.
Among the creative dance presentations, St. Elizabeth Girls School Kidetoko performed “Kick Drugs Out of Society,” Serere Secondary School presented “From Drug Abuse to a Drug-Free World,” Kamod Secondary School staged “Say No to Drug Abuse,” Ojetenyang Seed Secondary School showcased “Promoting Healthy Living by Staying Away from Drugs,” Atiira Seed Secondary School performed “Drug-Free World,” while Kobulubulu Secondary School from Kaberamaido highlighted the effects of drug abuse.
Halychon High School Serere also delivered an energetic anti-drug performance.
The event is the climax of a two-week Drug Free World campaign that involved sensitisation outreaches in more than 30 schools.
Organisers say the performances are expected to strengthen efforts to combat drug abuse among young people, with winners in the different categories set to receive prizes at the end of the competition
