Emorimor Papa Iteso Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng III is among traditional leaders attending a two-day cultural leaders conference convened by President Yoweri Museveni at State House, Entebbe.
The Emorimor is attending alongside Toto Akalait Juliet, Iteso Prime Minister Andrew Ocole and other members of the Iteso delegation.
The conference, which opened on Wednesday, November 4, brings together traditional rulers and representatives from across Uganda to discuss national unity, cultural preservation and economic development.
Among the cultural leaders attending is the Omukama of Tooro, Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma Nyabongo 1 , alongside representatives of the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom and other cultural institutions.
However, the absence of the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, and Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has attracted public attention, sparking debate about Buganda’s participation in the meeting.
Reports indicate that Mayiga was away on official duties in the Ssese Islands, while his two deputies were also engaged in other assignments. The Kabaka had attended the Masaza Cup finals at Wankulukuku the previous weekend.
The conference comes amid renewed discussions about the relationship between cultural institutions and government, particularly the constitutional limits on traditional leaders exercising political and administrative powers.
President Museveni is expected to engage cultural leaders on how traditional institutions can contribute to education, economic transformation, social cohesion and the preservation of Uganda’s diverse cultural heritage.
The meeting is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, November 5.
