SUMMA Hands Over Hoima City Stadium to NCS Ahead of President’s Grand Opening
Contractors SUMMA have officially handed over the Hoima City Stadium to the National Council of Sports (NCS), setting the stage for its grand commissioning by His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Christmas Eve.
The handover marks a major milestone in the completion of the iconic multi-sports complex, which is expected to significantly boost sports development in the region and across the country.
NCS, the government body mandated to manage all national sports facilities, received the stadium in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ministry of Works and Transport, the supervising consultants of the project.
The technical handover ceremony was presided over by the Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports at the Ministry of Education and Sports, Rev. Canon Dr. Duncans Mugumya, who represented the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kedrace Turyagenda.
During the event, the Commissioner for Public Structures at the Ministry of Works and Transport, Eng. Edward Ssimbwa, representing Permanent Secretary Waiswa Bageya, presented SUMMA with a Certificate of Completion.
SUMMA Project Manager Murat Altun led officials from NCS and various government ministries, departments and agencies on a guided tour of the stadium’s facilities before formally handing over the instruments of completion to NCS Board Chairman Ambrose Tashobya.
Chairman Tashobya was joined by NCS Board Members Moses Omara Anyii, Hajji Zubair Galiwango, Stephen Kiprotich, Piloya Evelyn Gloria and Cecilia Anyakoit, alongside NCS General Secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel and the Council’s top management team.
Dr. Mugumya, Chairman Tashobya and Dr. Ogwel expressed profound gratitude to President Museveni and the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, for their visionary leadership, unwavering support and full financial backing that ensured the Hoima City Stadium project became a reality.
They commended contractors SUMMA for their commitment, efficiency and high-quality workmanship, noting that the Turkish firm delivered the USD 129 million facility a remarkable five months ahead of the projected 18-month timeline. Special praise was also extended to Project Manager Eng. Ivan Gombya and the Ministry of Works supervision team for their exemplary oversight.
The ceremony was witnessed by Special Presidential Assistant on Education and Sports Gunter Lange, Assistant Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports Sammy Odongo, representatives from various government MDAs, and Hoima City leaders led by Resident City Commissioner Badru Mugabi and Mayor Brian Kaboyo.
With the handover complete, all is set for President Museveni to officially commission the picturesque sports complex on Wednesday, amid sports activities and celebrations expected to usher in a memorable Christmas for Uganda’s sports fraternity and the nation at large.
