Ambassador Hyuha Rallies Butaleja Journalists to Back Museveni Ahead of General Elections

As the general elections draw closer, Ambassador Dorothy Hyuha, a prominent mobiliser for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Butaleja District, has appealed to journalists based in the district to support efforts aimed at consolidating President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership in the forthcoming polls.
Ambassador Hyuha made the call on Monday while meeting journalists at City Resort Hotel in Nampologoma butaleja district.
During the engagement, she outlined several achievements, which she said positioned President Museveni for another term in office.
She cited the growth of Uganda’s media sector, noting that the country now hosts over 200 radio stations and other media platforms operating under a relatively free environment.
She further pointed out that many young people, both trained and untrained, have been absorbed into the journalism profession.
Ambassador Hyuha also highlighted infrastructure developments in Butaleja District, including the construction of schools, improved road networks, and several bridges
She specifically mentioned the upgrade of the Doho Rice Scheme, which she said has significantly boosted rice production and improved livelihoods in the area.
She commended journalists for forming the Butaleja Media Association, which she said provides an avenue for members to access government programs such as Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM).
She encouraged other community members to emulate the initiative for easier access to government support while strongly condemning the alleged extortion of money from PDM applicants.
The ambassador further urged voters to support NRM flag bearers in the upcoming elections, arguing that this would enhance effective representation in Parliament and local government structures.
In response, some journalists stated that their support for NRM candidates would depend on direct engagement with the media, emphasizing the importance of recognition of the “fourth estate.” However, Ali Hubala of NBS FM and Hassan Hasere of Bugwere FM openly pledged their support for the NRM, saying they do not cover opposition activities.
journalists also appealed to Ambassador Hyuha to help them secure opportunities in government offices in Kampala.
They expressed concern that some well-placed Banyole have not adequately supported fellow community members, unlike counterparts from regions such as Busoga, West Nile, and Ankole.
The meeting highlighted both political mobilization efforts and longstanding concerns among journalists regarding access to opportunities and inclusion at the national level.
