Soroti City – The “No Cow, No Vote” campaign spearheaded by Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament aspirant Joan Alobo has gained renewed momentum following reports that cattle compensation under the government’s restocking and rehabilitation programme will not take place until after the forthcoming elections.

As political campaigns draw to a close, Alobo has intensified her message to voters, arguing that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government has failed the people of Teso through what she described as empty promises.

She cited recent exercises in which government officials collected forms from communities, with many residents believing compensation would be effected before elections—expectations that have since not been met.

Multiple statements attributed to government officials and Presdent museveni have clarified  that the cattle restocking and rehabilitation program will commence after elections people had high hopes of receiving the money before elections.

Now Alobo, who has led the protests, appears to have scored following the failure by the government to compensate the iteso before the elections.

Where are the cows she asked ? Even the five they talked about are nowhere to be seen , she exclaimed, “The message to NaRM is simple: No cow, no vote. No referral hospital, no vote. That is the only language government understands,” Alobo told supporters.

She urged voters to reject the NRM at the ballot and instead overwhelmingly support the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to send a strong political message about the plight of the Teso sub-region

Alobo maintained that the delayed compensation validates  protests in Teso over cattle losses and underdevelopment, adding that the government only responds when pressured politically.

Cattle compensation has been a hot topic in this election, and 15 January 2026 will be the day to  assess the impact of the No cow No Vote protest,  but the entire campaign has seen NRM struggle to  respond to the cattle compensation question.
