Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament, Joan Alobo, has strongly criticized National Resistance Movement (NRM) campaigners for misleading voters with claims that the party’s Woman MP candidate will be appointed a minister if she wins the election.

Speaking during a campaign rally at Alyedi A Cell, Opuyo Ward, Alobo dismissed the claims as propaganda and deception, saying the President already has constitutional powers to appoint ministers at any given time.

“If those people are serious, let them be appointed ministers before the elections. The President has the power to do so,” Alobo told supporters.

She further argued that if President Yoweri Museveni intended to appoint a minister from Soroti, he would have already done so by appointing Edmond Ariko, the NRM Member of Parliament Soroti City East.

“These lies and propaganda are what NRM has always used. For now, let those spreading the propaganda first be appointed as ministers,” Alobo added.

The Soroti City Woman MP pledged to continue implementing programs that support youths, women’s groups, and single mothers, emphasizing her commitment to grassroots development and empowerment.

Meanwhile, Moses Okia Attan, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flag bearer for Soroti City East, urged residents of Opuyo to reject what he described as long-standing deception by NRM leaders.

Attan recalled that during a previous by-election, NRM candidates distributed electric poles to residents with promises of electricity connections—promises that, according to him, were never fulfilled.

“It is shocking that Opuyo, which contributes to power generation, remains in darkness,” Attan said.

He called on voters to reject lies and liars and encouraged them to turn up early at polling stations on election day.

“Voters should arrive early in the morning to avoid missing out when voting closes at 4:00 pm,” Attan advised.
