Soroti District Woman MP Ann Adeke Appointed FDC Chief Whip in Parliament

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has appointed Anna Adeke as its new Chief Whip in Parliament, marking a significant shift in the party’s leadership within the House. The appointment was formally communicated during a plenary sitting, confirming changes in the opposition party’s parliamentary structure.
Adeke replaces Yusuf Nsibambi, who earlier this year defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). His departure in February 2026 reduced the FDC’s representation in key leadership roles and underscored ongoing realignments within Uganda’s political landscape.
Now stepping into the role, Adeke takes on the responsibility of coordinating the FDC’s positions in Parliament, maintaining party discipline among its legislators, and serving as a crucial link between the party’s leadership and its parliamentary caucus. Known for her vocal presence and youthful energy, she is expected to play a central role in strengthening the party’s internal coordination and sharpening its engagement in legislative debates.
Her appointment reflects broader adjustments within opposition ranks, as parties seek to adapt to shifting political dynamics and reinforce their effectiveness in Parliament. Observers note that the elevation of younger leaders like Adeke signals a gradual renewal within opposition structures, with an emphasis on energizing party strategy and messaging.
As Parliament continues to deliberate on key national issues, the FDC leadership will be relying on Adeke to consolidate the party’s presence, maintain cohesion among its members, and effectively articulate its positions in an increasingly competitive political environment.
