The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has officially endorsed Denis Adim Enap for the presidency of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), adding a new dimension to the party’s ongoing leadership contest.
The endorsement was announced during a press briefing on Monday by PLU, the civic movement chaired by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
PLU’s endorsement comes at a time when the UPC is facing a prolonged leadership dispute.
The party has remained divided between supporters of incumbent president Jimmy Akena and rival factions, with the disagreements resulting in court cases and competing claims over the party’s legitimate leadership.
The development follows a series of court rulings and decisions by the Electoral Commission that questioned the legitimacy of Akena’s leadership.
According to the information provided, these decisions resulted in Akena and other contenders being barred from contesting for the presidency in the 2026 general elections under the UPC ticket.
PLU officials said their support for Denis Adim Enap is intended to promote what they described as “credible leadership” within one of Uganda’s oldest political parties.
The endorsement is expected to influence the ongoing leadership contest within the UPC and could further shape political alignments ahead of Uganda’s 2026 general elections.
