The Butaleja Security Officers have assured voters of tight security ahead of the Local Council One(LC1) elections, the exercise which shall take place on July 28.
The meeting, which was held in the Gardens of the Returning Officer on Monday, involved the O/C stations, Gombolola Internal Security Officers(GISOs), and the registrars at different levels.
David Kulaba Isabirye, Butaleja District Resident Commissioner(RDC), said that they shall arrest whoever dares to disrupt the exercise, and warned that his office shall not be linient to whoever shall be arrested in connection with violence in the Electoral Process.
“Why would one think LC1 is a do or die? The Police is ready to arrest anyone who will disorganise the LC1 elections. I don’t want anyone to cry for help from my office if arrested, “Isabirye said.
He also wondered why people would hate each other within their locality as if it’s the end of the world and discouraged the politics which is based on camps.
The RDC further revealed that his intelligence has five(5) spots across the district in relation to hooligansm.
Robert Kalamira, the Butaleja District Internal Security Officers(DISO), in the meeting, urged the registrars to maintain their phones on and report any attempts of violence at different polling stations in time.
Kalamira, also called for advised the participants to take videos of whoever shall take part in violence at different polling stations, then discouraged involvement in corruption tendencies by the Electoral Officers, including inflation of voters’ Registers.
Jackson Maumbe, the Butaleja District Police Commander(DPC), emphasised the need for professionalism by registrars.
He further asked the youths to desist from intimidation the elderly during the Electoral Process and emphasised that they have a revelation of hot spots across Butaleja district, into which they shall beef up the security.
Yet Apollo Hibombo, the Principal Assistant Secretary, on behalf of the Chief Administrative Officer(CAO, said that Local council One(LC1), is a important level of Administratration, thus offered Four (4) vehicles to help monitor the exercise.
The Returning Officer for Butaleja district, John Osinde, called for teamwork and revealed their readiness to arrest hooligans.
