By Lazima Wangadya.
Tororo Municipal Councillors and the technical team led by both the Mayor and the Town Clerk have today started their 3-day induction training at the Municipal Council chambers.
The induction training organized by the Ministry of Local Government attracted the Tororo Municipality Mayor Ochieng Benard, the Town Clerk, Councillors and Technical Officers.
The training is aimed at promoting harmony, strengthening the existing Local Government systems and also deepening the policy of decentralization and good governance.
Speaking during the training, Tororo Municipality Mayor Ochieng Benard requested the Local Government authorities to increase salaries for councillors, noting that too much tax is deducted from their allowances.
He further called upon councillors to turn up for the training in large numbers and take it seriously rather than coming only to sign for allowances.
Facilitators from the Ministry of Local Government are expected to take participants through roles of councillors, rules of procedure, financial management, planning, and service delivery among others.
The induction is expected to end on Wednesday with a closing ceremony and award of certificates to participants.
