Walking to Hell: Soroti Deputy RCC Warns Against Violence on NRM Supporters.
Soroti Deputy Resident City Commissioner in charge of Soroti City West Division, Chemutai James Small, has issued a stern warning to individuals involved in violence against National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters, saying those responsible will be “made to walk to hell on foot.”
Chemutai made the remarks recently while addressing a campaign gathering at Senior Quarters, following reports of growing intimidation and attacks on NRM supporters in Soroti City West.
He condemned acts where people wearing yellow NRM T-shirts are allegedly being threatened, beaten, stripped of their party attire, and having campaign posters torn down.
He emphasized that such violence will not be tolerated and that security agencies are ready to act against the perpetrators.
Reports indicate that NRM supporters have been assaulted in areas such as Pamba and Nakatunya, prompting concern among party leaders.
Chemutai warned that anyone found engaging in these acts will face serious consequences.
The warning comes as security authorities continue to assure the public of a peaceful electoral process ahead of the January 15 elections, with leaders urging residents to maintain law and order and reject political violence in Soroti City.
In another related development Soroti district RDC Hajji Imran Muluga and soroti City RCC.John Micheal okurut have recently intensified media tours to assure soroti of secure elections ,
“The public should be assured that security is in place and will remain firm during and after voting. We encourage everyone to participate peacefully and responsibly,” Hajj Muluga said during a talk show.
The leaders also used the platform to remind eligible voters to pick their voter locator slips from their respective parishes or designated polling stations in preparation for the polling day.
They stressed that having the slips will ease the voting process and minimize confusion on election day.
Additionally, both officials called upon political actors, candidates, and supporters to uphold harmony, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence throughout the election period, warning against acts that could disrupt peace and stability in the district
