Echodu Hails JICA Medical Equipment Donation to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.

Soroti City West MP-elect and National Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region on the NRM Central Executive Committee, David Calvin Echodu, has welcomed the donation of medical equipment by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, describing health as the foundation of development.
Speaking at the at the event held at the hospital, Echodu expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their continued support to Uganda’s health sector.
He emphasized that quality healthcare is central to prosperity and national growth.
“Health is the foundation of building any society. Without health, we cannot talk about prosperity or development,” Echodu said.
He commended the hospital leadership and medical staff for their dedication and resilience despite challenging working conditions.
He noted that strengthening healthcare systems remains a key commitment under the NRM manifesto, adding that government is focused on improving service delivery across the country.
Echodu praised Japan’s longstanding partnership with Uganda, describing the country as one known for order, cleanliness, and discipline. He thanked JICA for its collaboration with the Ministry of Health to strengthen regional referral hospitals, including Soroti.
While acknowledging existing gaps, particularly in infrastructure, Echodu pledged to work closely with the government to ensure that the hospital’s physical facilities are upgraded to match the newly acquired equipment.
He revealed that he had spoken to the Vice President on his way to the function, and that she conveyed her appreciation to JICA and the hospital leadership for their efforts.
Echodu added that he would continue engaging the Vice President, the Speaker of Parliament, and other key leaders to lobby for improved infrastructure at the facility.
He encouraged hospital staff to remain committed to their work, assuring them that their sacrifice and dedication have not gone unnoticed.
“With this new equipment and renewed support, we look forward to better outcomes at Soroti Hospital,” he said.
The ceremony marked the official handover of advanced medical equipment donated by JICA, aimed at strengthening service delivery and improving healthcare outcomes at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.
