CEMCORD Trains Environmental Neighbourhood Watch Advocates in Tororo.

The Centre for Media Literacy and Communication Development (CEMCORD) has trained more than 10 youths in Tororo District to serve as Environmental Neighbourhood Watch advocates, as part of efforts to promote community participation in environmental protection and social transformation.

CEMCORD, an organization dedicated to promoting media literacy and community-based strategies for development, conducted the training to equip young people with knowledge and skills to champion environmental conservation within their communities.


Speaking during community dialogue held at western Division Hall in Tororo municiapality Mwanja Saudi the liaison officer eastern region at CEMCORD  emphasized that environmental protection is a shared responsibility and should not be left solely to local leaders and government authorities.

The training concluded with the commissioning of over 11 participants who will act as Environmental Neighbourhood Watch advocates, helping to raise awareness on environmental issues and mobilize communities to take action against environmental degradation.

The Chairperson Tororo chapter Abbo Patricia highlighted the success of the organization’s “Polluter Pay” recycling project, noting that it has significantly contributed to improved sanitation and cleanliness in Tororo District through proper waste management and recycling initiatives.

According to Mwanja he , revealed that the organization aims to empower communities through youth leadership training, capacity building, and digital skills development. It also seeks to create platforms for addressing pressing community issues through partnerships with media houses, trained youth advocates, stakeholders, and local leaders.
