National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has welcomed a resolution by the European Parliament condemning human rights violations following Uganda’s January 15, 2026 general elections.
Kyagulanyi thanked European lawmakers for their intervention, describing the resolution as a reassurance that the international community is monitoring Uganda’s political situation. He said it gives hope to millions of Ugandans who feel oppressed and expressed confidence that accountability for post-election abuses will eventually be realised.
The European Parliament resolution cited widespread intimidation, arbitrary arrests, election-related violence, and an internet blackout. Lawmakers urged independent investigations into alleged crimes against humanity and called on Ugandan authorities to respect democratic principles and human rights.
The resolution, passed with 514 votes in favor, 3 against, and 56 abstentions, also recommended that the EU review cooperation with Kampala, support civil society, journalists, and human rights defenders.
Kyagulanyi continues to reject the official election results, calling them fraudulent and advocating for peaceful citizen-led pressure.
