Police in Soroti have arrested five suspects and recovered stolen property during an intelligence-led operation in Kengere Ward, authorities have said.

According to Ibrahim Saiga, the Regional Police Commander for East Kyoga, the operation followed a reported burglary on March 16, 2026, in which a resident, Abiro Aron, lost a generator and a mowing machine after unknown individuals broke into his home at night.

Saiga said a joint security team, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a raid that led to the arrest of five suspects, who are now in custody and have reportedly confessed to the crime.

The suspects include Juma Abdallah, 27; Opio William, 24; Ocen Sam, 35; Ekilu Nelson, 25; and Elibu Ismail, 18.

Police recovered the stolen generator from a bar in Kengere, while additional items—including mowing machines, iron sheets, electric wires, wheelbarrows, and metallic materials—were found at one suspect’s residence.

The suspects are being held at Soroti East Division Police Headquarters and will be transferred as investigations continue.
