Butaleja district- Goal Uganda, in partnership with Charity Water International, has donated a piped water system to Buwihula Primary School in Busaba Town council Butaleja district, addressing long-standing water scarcity in the area.
The newly installed tap water system will not only serve the school but also benefit residents of Buwihula village and surrounding communities. The water is sourced from the Halanga borehole and is expected to be extended to other parts of Busaba Town Council.
Speaking at the handover, Joseph Akot, Manager at Goal Uganda, said the organisation—supported by Charity Water International—is committed to improving hygiene in schools through the construction of latrines and provision of safe water.

Akot noted that access to clean tap water will particularly support adolescent girls in maintaining proper hygiene. He also directed the project engineer, John Katende, to conduct a feasibility study on the school’s soil in preparation for the construction of latrines.
Representing Charity Water International, Julian Gala highlighted that the organisation supports access to safe water and sanitation in over 200 countries worldwide. She urged the community and school administration to safeguard the newly installed water facilities.
Meanwhile, Goal Uganda’s Public Relations Officer, Musa Kabwangu, called on parents to support girls’ education, emphasizing the organisation’s inclusive approach, especially for learners with disabilities.

He added that data from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics indicates a growing female population, making girls more vulnerable and in need of focused support.
The school’s headteacher, Madina Natabo, alongside PTA chairperson Vincent Walwasa, expressed gratitude for the donation. However, they raised concerns about the shortage of classrooms. Buwihula Primary School currently has an enrolment of about 800 pupils, with at least two classes conducted under trees. The school also faces inadequate sanitation facilities, with pupils sharing latrines with teachers.
