Tororo District Local Government will convene tomorrow, Wednesday, to pass the district budget and consider land requests from several government departments.

Addressing a press briefing, John Okeya, the District Chairperson, said the council sitting will handle about seven agenda items, with land allocation requests forming a key part of the deliberations.

He noted that the district has previously allocated land to government agencies, including the Ministry of Judiciary for the High Court building, which is now complete.

Last year, the district also gave land to the Municipal Council for a Health Centre III in Nyangole, which has since been completed.

Now new requests before council include land for the President’s Office to construct a block for the Resident District Commissioner, the Internal Security Organisation for a regional office, and the Inspectorate of Government for a regional office.

“Tororo is now a regional headquarters hosting offices like the Regional Police, DPP, and the High Court. Bringing more regional offices here will improve service delivery,” Okeya said.

He added that the district plans to lobby for a passport office in Tororo to save residents from travelling to Mbale, Jinja, or Kampala for services.

Okeya dismissed claims that the district was planning to allocate land to councillors as people are alleging.

He clarified that tomorrow’s meeting will only handle requests from government institutions.

He assured residents that land in Tororo remains safe under his leadership and that all allocations follow proper procedure.
