Lwanga Shines as SC Villa End NEC’s 19-Match Unbeaten Run in 4-1 Rout
By Peterson Delacream.
SC Villa produced a commanding performance on Wednesday, defeating NEC FC 4-1 at Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo to complete a league double and end NEC’s remarkable 19-match unbeaten run.
Charles Lwanga was once again the standout performer, scoring a brace for the second consecutive away league game. The forward, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, gave Villa the lead in the 10th minute before doubling the advantage in the 18th minute. The Jogoos, who made ten changes from their Uganda Cup victory over URA FC, showed no signs of weakness despite the rotation.
Geoffrey Gagganga extended Villa’s lead in the 35th minute, putting the record league champions firmly in control at halftime.
In the second half, substitute Hassan Mubiru added the fourth goal in the 87th minute to seal a dominant display for Villa. However, the Jogoos were reduced to ten men after defender Farouk Matovu was sent off in the 82nd minute for a second bookable offence.
NEC FC managed a consolation goal through Emmanuel Kulanga, but the defeat saw their unbeaten league run come to an end. They remain sixth on 48 points with one match left in their campaign, alongside awaiting FUFA’s decision regarding their abandoned fixture against Buhimba United Saints.
SC Villa, currently third with 58 points, will conclude their league season at home against UPDF FC, while NEC wrap up their campaign against relegated Calvary FC
