Amuria RDC Warns wetland Encroachers As New LC111 Leaders Commit to Environmental Protection.

The Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Amuria district has intensified efforts to strengthen environmental conservation and community security following a strategic meeting with all newly elected LC III Chairpersons in the district.

The engagement, chaired by RDC Eseru Paul, focused on enhancing local leadership participation in safeguarding critical natural resources and addressing emerging environmental challenges affecting communities across Amuria District.

Among the key issues discussed was the protection of wetlands, which continue to face threats from illegal encroachment and degradation.

The meeting also highlighted the need to preserve valuable tree species, including shea nut trees, mango trees, tamarind trees, and other indigenous vegetation that contribute significantly to environmental sustainability and household livelihoods.

Addressing the leaders, the RDC emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in protecting the environment while promoting sustainable development.

He called upon local leaders to work closely with communities to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

The RDC’s Office, in partnership with the District Environment Officer, announced plans to launch enforcement operations targeting individuals and entities involved in the unlawful occupation and destruction of wetlands.

According to the district leadership, all persons currently carrying out unauthorized activities in wetlands have been put on notice and are required to immediately vacate the protected areas or face legal action.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from local leaders to support government efforts aimed at conserving natural resources, strengthening community security, and ensuring sustainable development throughout Amuria District.
