Kasambya County MP Daudi Kabanda has expressed anger over reports suggesting that former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among could avoid prosecution and recover some of the assets seized during ongoing anti-corruption investigations.

The outspoken legislator, who has been among the most vocal critics of alleged corruption within Parliament, took to social media on Friday to question the government’s commitment to the fight against graft.

His comments followed growing speculation that President Yoweri Museveni may have softened his stance toward the embattled former Speaker, potentially paving the way for a settlement that would see her released from legal scrutiny and some of her confiscated properties returned.

Reports indicate that Among could soon regain access to assets seized during investigations, including vehicles and residential properties.

Kabanda argued that the state’s anti-corruption campaign risks losing credibility if high-profile suspects are not prosecuted after months of public investigations and enforcement actions.

“If we’re serious about fighting corruption, we can’t stop at exciting the public with house arrests and headlines. People must be prosecuted and convicted so everyone learns the lesson,” Kabanda wrote.

The legislator further questioned what he described as selective enforcement of the law, drawing comparisons with previous corruption-related convictions.

“You can’t convict Nandutu over 300 iron sheets, then forgive the one who stole the entire economy. The law must apply equally to big or small fish,” he added.

Kabanda’s remarks have reignited public debate over accountability in the fight against corruption, with some Ugandans calling for due process while others argue that all allegations must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted where evidence exists.

Neither President Museveni nor government officials had publicly commented on the reports by press time.

Similarly, there has been no official communication from investigative agencies confirming whether charges against Among have been dropped or whether any seized assets are set to be returned.

The developments come amid sustained public scrutiny of corruption allegations involving senior government officials and growing calls for transparency in the handling of high-profile cases.

Observers say the outcome of the investigations could significantly influence public confidence in Uganda’s anti-corruption efforts and the principle of equal application of the law.
