Residents of Tororo Municipality have been urged to regularly seek guidance from the Municipal Physical Planning Office before undertaking any construction or development activities to ensure compliance with the approved physical development plan.

The call was made by the Municipal Council’s Physical Planning Sector during a sensitization drive held in Bison-Maguria Parish on Monday.

The exercise, led by Senior Physical Planner Mary Gorret Nakiyimba, aimed at educating residents on the importance of orderly urban development and adherence to the municipal physical development plan.

Addressing residents during a meeting held in Bison B Village, Nakiyimba emphasized that proper planning is essential for attracting investment and promoting sustainable development within the municipality.

She explained that Bison B has been designated as a light industrial area under the municipal development plan and is expected to accommodate facilities such as garages, washing bays, and spare parts shops. However, she noted that the area’s growth has been constrained by inadequate connectivity to the central business district.

Nakiyimba pledged to present the matter before the municipal council through the appropriate channels to explore possibilities of improving road connectivity between Bison and the town center, a move she said would boost trade and economic activities in the area.

She further appealed to residents to frequently consult the Physical Planning Office before commencing any developments to avoid violating the approved plan.

According to Nakiyimba, cases of construction on road reserves and service lanes remain a major challenge in the municipality, largely due to inadequate public awareness of the physical development guidelines.

“The Physical Planning Office is open to all residents. We encourage people to consult us before carrying out any development activities so that we can guide them and prevent costly mistakes,” she said.

The Municipal Physical Development Plan is a comprehensive strategic framework that guides land use, infrastructure development, zoning, economic growth, and public service provision within the municipality. It is aligned with national development objectives and is designed to meet the current and future needs of the community.

Speaking at the same meeting, Tororo Municipal Council Speaker and Bison Parish Councillor Apollo Okware commended the Physical Planning Sector for taking services closer to the people through community sensitization.

He urged the planners to extend similar awareness campaigns to all villages within the municipality, noting that a well-planned town attracts development and minimizes land-use conflicts.

“A properly planned municipality creates an enabling environment for investment and development while reducing disputes arising from uncoordinated developments,” Okware said.

Meanwhile, Bison Parish Town Agent Grace Jatego called upon residents to strictly adhere to the approved municipal plan to avoid making development errors that could lead to future complications.

The sensitization exercise forms part of the municipality’s efforts to increase public awareness on physical planning regulations and promote orderly urban growth across Tororo Municipality
