Police in Soroti have arrested four suspects in connection with the death of a 25-year-old football fan who was found unconscious hours after attending a night football match in Gweri Sub-county.
The deceased, identified as Ebegu Silver, reportedly attended a football screening with friends on the night of June 13 before disappearing in the early hours of the morning.
According to East Kyoga Regional Police Commander Ibrahim Saiga, Ebegu was last seen leaving the venue at around 3:00 a.m. in the company of several individuals.
Police say concern arose later when a resident discovered him lying unconscious by the roadside near Gweri Trading Centre and alerted local authorities.
The victim was rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for emergency treatment and was admitted in critical condition. However, he later succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care.
Speaking on June 22, ACP Saiga confirmed that four people had been taken into custody to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
