How Museveni’s Development Agenda Is Reshaping Alebtong
By Mathias Lutwama
President Yoweri Museveni’s long-standing emphasis on education, skills development, wealth creation and commercial agriculture is steadily transforming Alebtong District into a model of rural socio-economic progress. Through sustained government investment, the district is witnessing improved access to education, increased support for entrepreneurship and renewed focus on agricultural commercialisation.
The district’s 13 public secondary schools continue to receive government capitation grants, while Abia War Memorial Technical Institute and Amugu Agro Technical Institute are equipping hundreds of young people with marketable skills each year.
Through the Emyooga programme, billions of shillings have been injected into SACCOs, empowering artisans, carpenters, welders, salon operators and other entrepreneurs to expand their businesses and improve household incomes.
In agriculture, the distribution of more than 200,000 coffee seedlings has positioned farmers to benefit from rising coffee prices. Government is now promoting cocoa as another high-value cash crop to diversify incomes and strengthen household livelihoods.
Alebtong’s experience demonstrates how sustained implementation of President Museveni’s development agenda can translate government programmes into tangible improvements in education, enterprise and commercial agriculture. The task ahead is to ensure these investments continue delivering lasting prosperity for every household.
