The Vice President of Uganda, H.E. Rt. Maj. (Rtd.) Jessica Alupo, today led thousands of farmers and national leaders at a landmark Bukedi Coffee Farmers (Eastern Region) mobilisation function in Tororo, aimed at accelerating coffee and cocoa production as sustainable, high-income enterprises capable of transforming household incomes and driving Uganda’s economic growth.
The mobilisation campaign attracted farmers from across the Bukedi Sub-region and was attended by the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oboth Oboth, the Senior Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, the Senior Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, alongside other Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, and government leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Vice President Jessica Alupo officially launched the renewed Bukedi Coffee and Cocoa Mobilisation Campaign, urging households across the region to embrace coffee and cocoa farming as profitable commercial enterprises.

She emphasised that the government’s continued investment in agriculture is intended to create employment, improve household incomes, and promote long-term socio-economic transformation.
The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oboth Oboth, joined fellow leaders in encouraging farmers to take advantage of the government’s agricultural programmes and support initiatives aimed at increasing productivity and improving livelihoods.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Sanjay Tanna reaffirmed the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives’ commitment to supporting farmers beyond production by promoting value addition, strengthening cooperatives, expanding access to regional and international markets, and advancing agro-industrialisation.

He noted that increasing Uganda’s coffee exports remains key to enhancing industrial growth and national economic prosperity.
Hon. Frank Tumwebaze urged farmers to adopt modern farming techniques, utilise improved seedlings, embrace climate-smart agricultural practices, and work closely with agricultural extension services to maximise yields while maintaining high-quality production standards.

The event also provided an opportunity for Bukedi Coffee Farmers (Eastern Region) to express their appreciation to H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his unwavering commitment to Uganda’s agricultural transformation agenda and his continued support for programmes that empower farmers and promote wealth creation.
The mobilisation drive concluded with a renewed commitment from government leaders, farmers, and stakeholders to work together in expanding coffee and cocoa production, strengthening cooperatives, promoting value addition, and positioning the Bukedi Sub-region as one of Uganda’s leading centres for agricultural excellence and sustainable wealth creation.
