More than 15 secondary schools and one tertiary institution in Butaleja District on Saturday held a joint pass-out parade for learners who successfully completed two years of patriotism training aimed at instilling discipline, patriotism and leadership among young people.
The graduates included Senior One, Senior Five students, and first-year trainees from Butaleja Technical Institute, who showcased drills and skills acquired during the programme.
Jacob Wesswa, the Patron of the Patriotism Clubs and Secretary of the Organising Committee, said 15 secondary schools and Butaleja Technical Institute participated in the training.
He explained that the programme is designed to strengthen discipline among learners while nurturing love for Uganda and encouraging young people to serve the country.
“The training is intended to improve discipline among learners. It also promotes patriotism by teaching students to love their country.
We encourage them to consider joining the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, the Uganda Prisons Service, and the Uganda Police Force so that they can serve the nation,” Wesswa said
He also called upon public officials and civil servants to demonstrate patriotism through integrity, transparency, and accountability in the execution of their duties.
“Patriotism is not only for students. Leaders and civil servants should also love Uganda by exhibiting good discipline, transparency, and accountability in their offices,” he added.
Andrew Wahooli, a student of St. Mary’s Secondary School Kapisa said the training had inspired him to pursue a career in the security forces after completing his Advanced Level education.
“The skills I have gained have motivated me to join the Uganda security forces after my Advanced Level examinations so that I can serve my country,” Wahooli said.
Margaret Namwima, a student of Butaleja Modern Secondary School, appealed for the patriotism programme to be conducted every school term, saying it improves physical fitness and discipline and exposes learners to valuable life skills.
She noted that regular training would benefit more students by equipping them with practical skills while strengthening their sense of responsibility and national pride.
The pass-out parade marked the successful completion of the latest patriotism training cycle, with participants and organisers expressing optimism that the programme will continue to produce disciplined, responsible, and patriotic citizens
