Speaker Oboth Oboth Rallies Ugandans To Embrace Cleanliness and Fight Household Poverty.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth Oboth has called on Ugandans to unite in the fight against household poverty while embracing the government’s National Cleaning Day initiative as a means of improving public health and community development.
Speaking during the thanksgiving ceremony of West Budama North East Member of Parliament, Hon. Richard Owere Machika, at Paya Primary School playground on Saturday, Oboth urged leaders at all levels to work together in implementing government programmes that improve the welfare of citizens.
He tasked LC5 chairpersons to coordinate with LC3, LC2, and LC1 leaders to ensure communities actively participate in the National Cleaning Day campaign. He emphasised that cleanliness should be embraced as a shared responsibility and encouraged residents to take part in the monthly community clean-up exercises under the national programme.
The speaker further directed that on designated National Cleaning Days, public functions, including church services, should commence from 11:00 a.m. to allow residents enough time to participate in cleaning activities.
He appealed to all Ugandans to support the initiative, saying a clean environment is essential for good health and sustainable development.
On household poverty, Oboth said many capable people are denied opportunities because of poverty, noting that some are overlooked for leadership positions despite possessing the knowledge and ability to serve.
He urged citizens to embrace hard work and actively participate in the various government wealth creation and poverty eradication programmes initiated by President Yoweri Museveni, saying they offer a real opportunity to transform household incomes and improve livelihoods.
The Thanksgiving ceremony was combined with a fundraising drive to support the education sector in West Budama North East Constituency.
Several members of Parliament and other stakeholders made cash contributions towards addressing challenges affecting learners in the constituency.
During the event, Rt. Hon. Oboth also handed over a new ambulance to strengthen healthcare services in the constituency. The ambulance was donated by the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Richard Owere Machika, to improve access to emergency medical services for residents.
