Soroti City West Member of Parliament David Calvin Echodu has extended food support to Primary Seven (P7) candidates across government-aided primary schools in Soroti City West Division to ensure learners sit their Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) without the challenge of an empty stomach.
The support, which includes 50 kilograms of rice and 25 kilograms of meat per school, is aimed at providing meals to candidates during their final examinations.
A total of 12 schools benefited from the initiative, including 11 government-aided schools in Western Division and Orwadai Stars Nazarene Primary School, which was also incorporated into the programme.
Teachers and school administrators welcomed the gesture, saying it would help address feeding challenges during examinations, particularly for schools where parents are unable to contribute towards candidates’ meals.
Speaking on behalf of amen Primary School, teacher Awujo Mary Goretti said the food support would enable learners to concentrate better on their examinations.
She noted that candidates need adequate food to maintain their energy and concentration while answering examination papers.
Apako Esther, a teacher from Arapai Primary School, described the support as helpful to both learners and schools, appreciating Echodu for remembering candidates during the examination period.
The Deputy Headteacher of Pamba Primary School also expressed gratitude, revealing that the school had received 50 kilograms of rice and 25 kilograms of meat.
She said feeding candidates had been a challenge due to limited contributions from parents.
Apedun Ann deputy headteacher Father Hilders. Primary School and Majengo-Oderai also appreciated the initiative, saying it had provided relief to schools as candidates prepared to sit their final examinations.
Donny Moses, proprietor of Orwadai Stars Nazarene Primary School and Chairperson of LC1 in Orwadai, thanked the MP’s office for including the private school in the programme, noting that its candidates were sitting their examinations at Rocker view Primary School.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, Enocka Opio, NRM Western Division Chairperson and Chief Coordinator in Echodu’s office, said the MP had continued supporting P7 candidates over the past three years.
Opio said the latest intervention was part of Echodu’s efforts in the education sector, adding that the MP had directed his office to ensure candidates received food support during the examination period.
He also encouraged the candidates to remain confident, do their best and approach their examinations with determination.
The initiative comes amid concerns from some school administrators about the difficulty of providing meals to examination candidates, particularly where parents have limited financial resources.
Through the food distribution, Echodu’s office says it seeks to support learners’ welfare and create a more comfortable examination environment for P7 candidates across Soroti City West.
