The Mayor of Tororo Municipality has congratulated His Royal Highness Emorimor Papa on reaching four years of cultural leadership, commending his contribution to peace building, reconciliation and unity among communities in the wider Ateker region.
The Mayor made the remarks after attending celebrations marking Emorimor’s fourth coronation anniversary in Malaba, Busia County, Kenya, where cultural leaders, political representatives and other dignitaries gathered to honour the Teso cultural leader.
He described the four years of Emorimor’s leadership as a period in which significant efforts have been made to strengthen cultural unity and address longstanding disagreements among communities, particularly in Tororo District.
The mayor singled out Emorimor’s involvement, alongside Akwara Adola, in negotiations aimed at resolving longstanding tribal tensions in Tororo, saying their engagement has helped create renewed hope for peaceful coexistence.
He noted that Tororo has experienced tribal disagreements for many years but said the continued dialogue and reconciliation initiatives have encouraged communities to embrace peace and work towards a common future.
On behalf of the people of Tororo Municipality, the Mayor congratulated Emorimor for his four years on the throne and expressed hope that the initiatives he has started would continue benefiting Teso, the wider Ateker community and the region at large.
He also called upon political, cultural and religious leaders from Tororo, Eastern Uganda and the wider Ateker region to support Emorimor, emphasizing that cultural leadership and regional development require collective responsibility.
The mayor said Emorimor could not achieve the aspirations of the Ateker community alone and appealed to leaders, including those in the political establishment, to work alongside him in advancing unity and development.
The fourth coronation anniversary was held in Malaba, Kenya, bringing together members of the Teso community and other Ateker representatives to celebrate Emorimor’s cultural leadership and reflect on the journey towards greater unity among the communities.
