He pointed to the establishment of the PFF—formally unveiled in June this year—as taking place in a climate marked by shrinking political space.

He further cited the prolonged incarceration of the party’s leader and four-time presidential contender, Dr. Kizza Besigye is a clear sign of politically driven repression.

“The PFF came into existence this June, yet our leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye has spent all of this year and two months of last year behind bars for political reasons,” Ssemujju stated.

He also voiced concern over what he described as the expanding role of the military in civilian life, accusing security agencies of being used to silence dissent nationwide.

According to him, arrests are no longer limited to politicians but now affect citizens from all sectors of society.

Turning to the electoral process, Ssemujju observed that a significant portion of 2025 has effectively revolved around elections, conducted in what he described as a strained and unbalanced environment. “We are already deep into an election period.

Most of 2025 has essentially been taken up by electoral activities,” he noted.
