Zelensky says Russia ‘doesn’t want peace’ ahead of Florida meeting with Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet former US President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday to discuss a revised US-brokered peace plan aimed at ending nearly four years of war with Russia. The meeting comes after a 10-hour Russian missile and drone barrage on Kyiv over the weekend, which killed two people and injured 32, prompting Zelensky to claim that Moscow “doesn’t want peace.”
Zelensky plans to discuss security guarantees, territorial concessions, and a new 20-point peace plan. He suggested a “free economic zone” in eastern Donbas as a potential compromise, although Russia has yet to respond.
Trump has indicated he expects to review the plan personally, while Zelensky maintains the draft is nearly complete and “foundational” for ending the war. European and NATO leaders have expressed strong support for Ukraine.
The Russian strikes on Kyiv damaged energy infrastructure, leaving 40% of homes without heating. Russia claimed the attacks targeted Ukrainian military-industrial facilities. Ukraine and neighboring Poland remain on high alert following the weekend assault.
