Soroti SS Teacher Killed in Road Crash Along Soroti–Lira Highway

— Police in Kaberamaido District have launched investigations into a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the life of a cyclist along the Soroti–Lira Highway on Wednesday morning.

According to East Kyoga Regional Police, the accident occurred at about 11:20 a.m. at Aoya B Village in Abalang Parish, Oriamo Sub-county.

The crash involved a Toyota Wish motor vehicle, registration number UBD 512A, driven by Dembi Paul, a resident of Mbale District.

The vehicle was reportedly travelling from Soroti towards Lira when it knocked a pedal cyclist identified as Angia Joseph, 48, a teacher at Soroti Secondary School and a resident of Oriamo Sub-county in Kaberamaido District.

Police said the cyclist sustained fatal injuries and died instantly at the scene.

The deceased’s body was transported to Kaberamaido Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.

The driver was arrested and is currently in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police have urged all road users to exercise maximum caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and respect the rights of other road users, particularly vulnerable groups such as cyclists and pedestrians.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
