Fresh signs of political unity in the Teso sub-region are beginning to emerge following a high-level meeting between Members of Parliament–elect from Serere District and the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among.

The Speaker was recently endorsed by the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) as the next Speaker of the 13th Parliament.

The Serere MPs-elect held a fruitful engagement with Rt. Hon. Anita Among today at Parliament, focusing on strengthening parliamentary engagement and enhancing effective representation of their constituents.

The MPs praised the Speaker’s leadership, describing it as inclusive, focused, and development-oriented.

During the meeting, the Speaker underscored the importance of unity and cooperation among legislators, urging MPs to rise above political divisions and work collectively to address challenges affecting their communities.

She emphasized that unity is a key driver of meaningful development, especially in historically divided regions.

The MPs-elect reaffirmed their commitment to prioritising the needs of Serere District, with particular focus on infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

They highlighted the urgent need for improved roads, markets, and other public facilities to stimulate economic growth and improve livelihoods.
They also sought guidance from the Speaker on how to effectively leverage parliamentary resources and platforms to push the district’s development agenda.

Political analysts observe that while the engagement may partly be linked to the ongoing mobilisation around the speakership, the initiative should go beyond parliamentary politics and evolve into a broader effort to unite the politically fragmented Teso sub-region.

Observers argue that sustained unity among leaders is essential if the region is to achieve meaningful and inclusive development.

Rt. Hon. Among encouraged the MPs to be active participants in parliamentary debates and committee work. She stressed the importance of maintaining close contact with constituents, listening to their concerns, and ensuring their voices are effectively represented on the floor of Parlaiment.

The MPs raised key challenges facing Serere District, including limited access to clean water and inadequate healthcare facilities. In response, the Speaker assured them of her full support and pledged to work closely with them to advocate for practical solutions.

The Speaker emphasized the need for a collaborative approach between Parliament, local leaders, and government agencies to tackle development challenges.

The MPs welcomed her commitment, noting that collective effort would yield better results and deliver tangible benefits to their constituents.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to work closely with the Speaker’s office to drive progress in Serere District. The MPs left the meeting energized and determined to enhance parliamentary engagement and effectively represent their people.

As the 12th Parliament continues its work, the engagement marks a positive milestone toward unity, effective representation, and development in Serere District.

Inspired by the Speaker’s leadership, the MPs expressed optimism about the future, pledging to translate their plans into action.

With renewed cooperation and focus, Serere District is increasingly poised for growth and development in infrastructure, education, and healthcare—setting the stage for a stronger contribution to national development.
