Authorities at Kaberamaido General Hospital are preparing to conduct a burial for a headless body that has remained unclaimed in the facility’s mortuary as decomposition worsens.

The body was discovered on Sunday, February 23, 2026, along the Lwala Road–Kaberamaido Road by police officers from Kalaki Police Station.

It was later transported to the hospital for preservation and further management.

Dr. Auna Eric, the hospital’s medical superintendent, said the facility is facing significant challenges in handling the remains due to limited mortuary space and persistent power outages.

According to Dr. Auna, the unreliable electricity supply has accelerated the decomposition process, raising serious public health concerns at the hospital.

He noted that the hospital has made efforts to work with relevant authorities to ensure the body is accorded a decent burial if no relatives come forward in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the East Kyoga Regional Police Commander, Ibrahim Saiga, confirmed that no missing person report has so far been linked to the deceased.

He added that no family members or relatives have come forward to identify or claim the body.

Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
