Female Christians from the Bukedi Diocese of the Church of Uganda have organized a grand celebration for Mary’s Day, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 25, at Bunyole West Archdeaconry headquarters in Mugulu, Butaleja District.

The Mothers Union Members
The event is expected to bring together believers from all churches across the seven districts that make up Bukedi Anglican Diocese in a show of unity and faith.
According to Betty Nesihwe, the Diocesan Coordinator of the Mothers’ Union, Mary’s Day—celebrated annually on March 25—commemorates the biblical moment when Angel Gabriel announced to Mother Mary that she would give birth to Jesus Christ. The celebration is held on a rotational basis among the 15 archdeaconries within the diocese.
Nesihwe revealed that the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has been invited to preside over the ceremony. Meanwhile, Sarah Langa will serve as the guest preacher for the day.
In the lead-up to the main celebrations, female church leaders on Tuesday carried out charitable activities at Busolwe General Hospital. The Mothers’ Union members donated various items to mothers in the maternity ward as part of their outreach.

The gesture was warmly received by beneficiaries, including Julian Nabanghende, Shadia Namwenge, and Jaliana Nahiirya, a teenage mother, who expressed gratitude for the support and said it had given them hope during a critical time.

However, another mother, Florence Gessa, used the occasion to call on women to seek medical attention promptly when labor begins. She also cautioned against abortion, describing it as a serious moral concern.
The Mary’s Day celebrations are expected to highlight faith, compassion, and community service among Anglican Christians in the Bukedi Diocese.
