Newly elected Member of Parliament, Shyam Jay Tanna, representing Tororo Municipality in Uganda’s 12th Parliament, has publicly declared his support for the re-election of Speaker Anita Annet Among.
In a statement issued today, shyam Tanna cited established precedent and party endorsement as key reasons for his position.
He noted that the tradition of allowing Speakers to serve two terms, alongside backing from the National Resistance Movement Central Executive Committee, informed his decision.
“I am here to offer my support to the Right Honourable Speaker Anita Among for her bid for a second term in speakership,” shyam Tanna said.
He also expressed strong support for Thomas Tayebwa to continue serving as deputy speaker. Shyam described both leaders as “tried and tested,” pointing to their performance during the 11th Parliament.
According to shaym, continuity in leadership will be essential for advancing Uganda’s development agenda. “We will work with them to develop Uganda for our people and everyone else,” he added.
The endorsements come as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the leadership election in the 12th Parliament, with members of the ruling party signaling unity behind incumbent parliamentary leaders.
