The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Lino Anguzu, has revealed that his office is closely supporting ongoing investigations into alleged corruption within Parliament, with the intention of ensuring investigators gather credible and admissible evidence capable of securing convictions where criminal conduct is established.

Speaking to the media on Friday, May 22, 2026, Anguzu said the Office of the DPP is working hand in hand with investigative agencies behind the scenes by providing legal guidance throughout the probe involving former Speaker Anita Among and other Parliament officials.

According to Anguzu, the role of the DPP is to ensure that investigators build strong cases that can stand the test of court proceedings rather than rushing into prosecutions without sufficient evidence.

“We are working closely with the investigating agencies to ensure that the evidence collected meets the required legal threshold for prosecution,” Anguzu said, while cautioning the public against drawing conclusions before investigations are concluded.

The investigations into Among have intensified in recent weeks following allegations of corruption, money laundering and illicit enrichment.

Security agencies recently conducted coordinated searches at properties linked to the former Speaker in Nakasero, Kigo and Ntinda, as well as her office at Parliament.

During the operations, investigators reportedly recovered several items believed to be relevant to the inquiry, including vehicles, cash, jewellery and electronic surveillance equipment.

Authorities are now examining whether the assets were lawfully acquired.

The latest developments signal a major escalation in the high-profile investigation that has attracted national attention and renewed debate on accountability among senior public officials.

Although no formal charges have yet been filed against Among, Anguzu emphasized that the DPP’s office remains committed to ensuring that all evidence gathered is credible, sufficient and capable of sustaining convictions in court where wrongdoing is proven.

Anti-corruption campaigners have since called for independent and transparent investigations, urging authorities to handle the matter without fear or favour regardless of the status of those implicated.

The investigations remain ongoing as multiple state agencies continue gathering evidence expected to shape possible prosecution decisions in the coming weeks.
