The Iteso cultural leader, Papa Emormor Sande Emolot Etomileng, has urged the Iteso community to revive and preserve respect for elders and leaders while promoting good cultural morals.
Papa Emormor made the remarks today at King George Stadium in Tororo District during the launch of the Iteso Family and Gender Relations Guidelines Book.
He calls on the community to return to the values of respect that were upheld in past generations and to confront immorality that he says is misleading the youth.
He thanked the International Justice Mission (IJM) team for their work in developing and launching the book, noting that it will help strengthen families and guide the community.
The event drew several dignitaries, including the King of Inzu ya Masaba, king of samia Bugwe representatives from Kwara Adhola, and Acholi cultural institutions, as well as politicians and religious leaders.
The IJM Country Coordinator Wamaitha Kimani says the organization was grateful for the partnership with the Iteso Cultural Institution, noting that they are committed to working together to fight domestic violence and immorality in society
Ochieng Benard, Mayor of Tororo Municipality, commended both the cultural institution and IJM for the initiative, noting that his office remains open to support efforts that promote family stability and cultural values in the municipality.
The Iteso Family and Gender Relations Guidelines Book is expected to serve as a key resource for families, clan leaders, and local authorities in handling domestic issues and promoting cultural morals across the Iteso community and Uganda at large.
