Pallisa Police Arrest Man Over Fatal Assault on Brother-in-Law

Police in Pallisa District are investigating a murder case following the death of a 38-year-old man who succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent confrontation with his brother-in-law.
The deceased, identified as Charles Faustine Okonye, died on Sunday after he was allegedly assaulted during a domestic dispute in Kadoki Village, Akadot Parish.
According to Bukedi North Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyempasa, the incident occurred on the night of June 6, 2026, when John Outa, 25, visited his wife’s family home.
Preliminary police findings indicate that a disagreement erupted between Outa and Okonye, leading to a physical altercation in which Okonye suffered severe injuries.
The victim was initially rushed to Pallisa General Hospital for treatment before being referred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital due to the seriousness of his condition. He was later pronounced dead on June 7.
Following the incident, Pallisa District Police Commander SP Patience Namara, accompanied by officers from the District Criminal Investigations Department, visited the scene and addressed residents on the importance of resolving disputes lawfully and avoiding acts of mob justice.
Police have since taken Outa into custody to assist with investigations. His wife, Rose Apio, has also been detained as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The deceased’s body was transferred to Mbale City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
A murder case has been registered at Pallisa Central Police Station under reference number CRB 250/2026, and investigations remain ongoing.
Police have praised members of the community for promptly reporting the incident to authorities rather than resorting to vigilante action.
