A section of supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in Tororo District staged a protest on Saturday, June 6, 2026, calling on National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders to remove Dr. Tanga Odoi from his position as Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission over allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

The protesters, led by Opondo Dem Gaster, marched from Lions Children’s Park to the NRM district offices in Tororo Town. Dressed in T-shirts bearing slogans such as “Wadaki Tanga” and “Tanga Must Go,” the demonstrators demanded accountability and reforms within the party’s electoral body.

According to the protesters, the procession faced resistance from security personnel and individuals they alleged were acting on behalf of Dr. Tanga Odoi.

Despite the challenges, Dem Gaster said the group successfully delivered a petition to the NRM district office outlining their grievances.

Speaking after the march, Gaster accused Dr. Tanga Odoi of corruption, misuse of office, and failing to uphold the integrity expected of the NRM Electoral Commission.

The dispute later spilled onto social media platform X, where Gaster reiterated his accusations and referenced what he described as corruption scandals within the commission. In response, Dr. Tanga Odoi dismissed the allegations and told Gaster to “concentrate on grazing goats and pigs he had got out of PDM.”

The online exchange has since generated debate among residents of Tororo District and political observers, with many questioning internal party governance and accountability within the NRM Electoral Commission.

However, Dr. Tanga Odoi denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that he has served in his position with integrity and has worked his way up through genuine service and commitment to the party.

By the time of filing this report, NRM officials in Tororo District had not issued an official response to the petition or the allegations raised by the protesters
