Concern Grows Over Anita Among’s Health as Leaked Images Spark Public Debate.

Growing concern has emerged over the health and wellbeing of former Speaker of Parliament and Second National Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Hon. Anita Annet Among, following the circulation of images appearing to show her in a frail condition while undergoing treatment at her residence.
The images, which surfaced on social media this week, reportedly show Among with heavily swollen and bandaged feet while receiving intravenous treatment in what appears to be a home-care setting.
The photos have triggered widespread sympathy and renewed public discussion about her health status, treatment, and welfare.
The development follows reports that the former speaker has been battling deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a serious blood clot condition that allegedly left her unable to walk. Earlier reports carried a disclaimer that the claims had not been independently verified by official sources.
However, the leaked images have intensified public concern and calls for clarification regarding her condition.
Among, one of Uganda’s most influential political figures rose through the ranks to become Speaker of Parliament and later served as the NRM’s Second National Vice Chairperson.
Her prominence in both government and party structures has made developments concerning her health a matter of significant public interest.
Former Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko was among the first public figures to raise concerns about Among’s conditions.
During a live TikTok broadcast on June 22, 2026, Nsereko alleged that the former speaker was critically ill and questioned the circumstances under which she was receiving treatment.
“It’s terrible what I have seen. The legs are all swollen. What happened to compassion in the world? On one side, Lukwago is being hunted for not working with them, while on the other hand, those who have worked with them are also being oppressed,” Nsereko reportedly said.
The images and accompanying claims have prompted supporters and political observers to question whether a leader of Among’s stature is receiving the level of medical care, support, and public consideration expected for someone who has served in one of the country’s highest offices.
Questions have also been raised about the apparent lack of official communication regarding her health.
Many argue that transparency is important, particularly when it concerns a senior national leader whose service has significantly shaped public affairs.
At the same time, Among remains under investigation by the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) over allegations including corruption, abuse of office, illicit enrichment, and money laundering. She has not publicly commented on reports concerning her health.
Reports further indicate that security operations were previously conducted at several properties associated with the former speaker as part of ongoing investigations.
However, observers argue that regardless of any legal proceedings, access to appropriate medical care and humane treatment should remain a fundamental right.
Political analysts note that senior public officials often attract national attention during periods of illness because citizens feel invested in their wellbeing and leadership legacy.
The current situation has therefore sparked broader discussion about how Uganda supports former leaders facing health challenges.
As speculation continues, calls are growing for clear communication from relevant authorities, Parliament, and those close to Among regarding her condition and recovery.
Many believe that greater transparency would help address public concern and provide reassurance to supporters and the wider public.
By press time, no comprehensive official statement had been issued regarding the reports and images circulating online.
Meanwhile, supporters and well-wishers continue to express hope for her recovery and wish her a full and speedy return to health.
