Weere vows clean break  with past as NRM intensifies butaleja  campaigns

Elvis Weere, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate for Local Council V (LCV) chairperson in Butaleja district, has pledged to overhaul leadership in the district, blaming past administrations for selfishness, corruption, and poor service delivery.

Speaking during NRM village-led campaigns, Weere said Butaleja has for a long time suffered from leadership that prioritizes political loyalty over competence, noting that jobs have often been awarded based on political support rather than merit.

“The district has been weakened by brokers of job opportunities, which fuels corruption and results in the appointment of unqualified personnel,” Weere said, adding that his leadership would focus on reconciliation, teamwork, and professionalism.

Meanwhile, the NRM Administrative Secretary, Mohammed Ali Hafunjo, reported that the party remains with only four sub-counties to complete its village-led campaigns across the district.

The campaign strategy targets 63 NRM structure leaders per village. On Tuesday, the exercise was carried out in Busolwe Sub-county and Busolwe Town Council, drawing enthusiastic support for NRM flag bearers.

James Waluswaka, the NRM candidate for Member of Parliament for Bunyole West, echoed calls for reconciliation as a foundation for development.

He pledged to dedicate his energy in the next term to improving rural electrification, saying access to power is key to transforming livelihoods.

Annet Sarah Logose highlighted achievements in the health sector, revealing that through her engagement, the Ministry of Health conducting  fistula screening in Butaleja district on Monday and Tuesday, December 22 and 23, covering Bunyole East and Bunyole West constituencies.

She also condemned what she described as rampant rumor-mongering, warning that misinformation undermines unity and development.

In a related development, NRM mobiliser for Butaleja, Nicholas Higenyi, discouraged voters from attempting to guard their votes after casting them, contrary to calls by opposition groups.

He disclosed that a designated vote-protection force had already been trained for the task and urged voters to maintain peace for the sake of prosperity.

Concluding the day’s activities, Busolwe Sub-county NRM Chairperson Jonathan Wandage rallied party supporters to show solidarity by wearing NRM party shirts on Christmas Day, describing it as a symbol of unity and confidence in the party’s leadership.

As campaigns enter their final stretch, NRM leaders say their focus remains on unity, peaceful participation, and delivering tangible change to the people of Butaleja.
