The National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region, Echodu David Calvin, has issued a stern warning to party flag bearers against disunity, double standards, and participation in activities of independent candidates, saying the ruling party has the best opportunity to win elections in Soroti City if members remain united.

Addressing NRM flag bearers at Knock Tee Gardens  Soroti City on Monday  22 December 2025, Echodu said victory was entirely in the hands of the party members themselves.

“NRM has the best opportunity to win. It is all in our hands. If you lose elections, don’t blame FDC or anyone else—blame yourselves,” Echodu said.

He emphasized that unity among flag bearers was non-negotiable, warning that any party leader or flag bearer found attending or supporting rallies of independent candidates would face disciplinary action, including suspension.

“From today, even if you are a chairman, if you attend independent campaigns, you will be suspended.

Respect and work with NRM structures. Don’t fight them,” he warned.

Echodu said the party’s goal was to ensure that all NRM flag bearers win their respective races, regardless of perceived weaknesses.

Independents are our friends, we love them, but let them wait for five years and come back to win the flag,” he said.

He further stressed that NRM aims to dominate all levels of leadership, from village councils to Parliament, turning Soroti “fully yellow.”
“We want unity that has never been seen before. One agenda, one direction.

If you took our flag for fun, forget it—this time we want to win,” Echodu added.

Reaffirming his commitment to the party leadership, Echodu said he had pledged to President Yoweri Museveni to deliver Soroti City for NRM.

“The games played before will not be accepted. No games that undermine NRM. Anyone with other plans should come clean,” he cautioned.

He also promised to support all flag bearers, including those who opposed him during the Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections.

“Even those who fought me during CEC elections, we shall support them because they are flag bearers. My primary goal is to deliver victories,” he said.

Echodu noted that NRM has been a minority in Soroti City Council for years, but said the time had come for the ruling party to take over all council seats.
“All city councillors must be NRM. Other parties can wait,” he said.

Flag Bearers Speak Out
NRM flag bearer for Kichinjaji Ward councillor, Soroti City East divison , Okiroro David, said the party was alive and strong, but internal fights stemming from primary elections had weakened grassroots support.

Meanwhile, John Baptist Emukoke  the  Aloet Ward councilor and NRM flag bearer appealed to Echodu to financially and materially support NRM Members of Parliament flag bearers so that they are “beefed up” for effective campaigns, calling for all possible support from party leadership.

Elap John Wilfred, NRM flag bearer for councillor, Soroti City East Division, acknowledged confusion among flag bearers following meetings convened by former party mobilizers.

However, he admitted that flag bearers were desperate due to lack of support from the party and apologized, pledging never to attend such meetings again.

NRM Woman Councillor flag bearer for Akisim Ward, Sharifa Abdullah, pledged to work closely with fellow flag bearers following the Echodu’s counsell

Concluding his address, Echodu reiterated that loyalty to party flag bearers was expected at all political events.

“We don’t hate anyone, but our team must win. Why would a flag bearer attend events of other candidates? This is politics—support your flag bearer. Attend their events, and we shall take you seriously,” he concluded.

The meeting ended with renewed calls for discipline, unity, and full mobilization as NRM intensifies preparations to reclaim political dominance in Soroti City.
