The Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Eciru Oliach has invited all political aspirants from the Teso sub-region to attend special prayers and blessings aimed at promoting peaceful and successful political campaigns and elections ahead of the 2026 general elections.

According to a statement issued by the Vicar General of Soroti Catholic Diocese, Msgr. Robert Ecogu, the special prayers will take place on Sunday, 28th December 2025, at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish in Soroti.

The prayers will be offered during a Solemn Holy Mass for the official closing of the Jubilee Year 2025, which will be celebrated under the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.”

The Holy Mass is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and will bring together clergy, religious, lay faithful, and political leaders from across the region.

Bishop Oliach emphasized the importance of grounding political leadership in faith, moral integrity, and service to humanity.

The Diocese hopes that through prayer and reflection, aspiring leaders will be inspired to uphold peace, unity, and justice during the forthcoming electoral period.

“This is a moment for political aspirants to place their ambitions before God and allow Him to shape them into leaders who serve with humility, honesty, and hope,” the statement reads.

The Diocese has extended an open invitation to all political aspirants, regardless of party affiliation, encouraging them to participate in the Mass and seek spiritual guidance as they prepare for the 2026 elections.

The Bishop’s call comes at a time when faith leaders across the country are increasingly advocating for peaceful political engagement and values-based leadership.

The Diocese concluded the invitation with a message of encouragement: “Come and allow the Lord to transform you into a Politician of Hope.”
